FRESNO, CALIF. — Authorities are searching for the driver of an वाहन involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the lives of a mother and her young son early Monday morning in Fresno.
The Fresno Police Department identified the victims as 41-year-old Martha Hernandez and her 9-year-old son, Adrian Hernandez. The collision occurred at approximately 2:00 a.m. on April 6, 2026, at the intersection of McKinley Avenue and Fresno Street.
According to investigators, the pair were traveling in a 2020 Dodge Durango when a Honda Pilot allegedly ran a red light and struck their vehicle. The force of the impact caused the SUV to leave the roadway and enter a nearby canal. The driver of the Honda Pilot fled the scene, leaving the vehicle behind.
Emergency responders recovered Martha Hernandez from the water and transported her to Community Regional Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead. Authorities later determined that her son had also been in the vehicle. Following an additional search, Adrian Hernandez was located in the canal hours later and pronounced deceased.
Police say the suspect driver may have been intoxicated and are actively working to identify and locate the individual. Investigators are processing the abandoned vehicle and reviewing witness accounts as part of the ongoing case.
Authorities also confirmed the victims had been returning home from a family gathering in Madera at the time of the crash.
Martha Hernandez is remembered as a devoted mother, while Adrian Hernandez is described as a bright and cherished child. Their deaths have left the Fresno community in mourning.
