Megan Whiting Obituary – Northfield, NH Shooting Death: Community Mourn Of The Death Of Megan Whiting
NORTHFIELD, N.H. — The Northfield community is mourning the tragic and sudden loss of Megan Whiting, 27, whose life ended early Monday morning during a police response to a violent domestic disturbance at an apartment on Vine Street.
According to authorities, neighbors called 911 just after midnight after hearing shouting and chaos coming from inside the residence. The caller reportedly told dispatchers that Whiting was attacking another person with a fire extinguisher while damaging furniture and breaking a window. The urgency in the call reflected the fear and confusion unfolding inside the apartment.
Officers from the Northfield and Tilton police departments arrived within minutes. When they entered the residence, officials say they found Whiting holding a knife while standing near a woman who had already been injured during the disturbance.
Police say several commands were given for Whiting to drop the knife, but she did not comply. During the tense encounter, one officer fired a weapon, striking Whiting. Officers then secured the knife and safely removed the injured woman from the apartment before providing aid.
Despite those efforts, Megan Whiting was pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy later determined that she died from multiple gunshot wounds, and the medical examiner ruled the manner of death a homicide, meaning it resulted from the actions of another person. Authorities confirmed that no officers or other civilians were physically injured during the incident.
Officials say one responding officer was wearing a body camera, and the footage will be reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation. The identities of the officers involved have not been released while interviews and procedural reviews are underway.
Friends and family members are left mourning a life that ended too soon. Those who knew Megan say she faced struggles but was deeply loved and remembered by many. As the investigation continues, loved ones are focusing on honoring her memory and the moments they shared with her.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been publicly announced.
