Gary Blaylock Obituary – Booneville, AR Shooting Death: Beloved Resident Has Died In A fatal Crash
LOGAN COUNTY, Ark. — The Logan County community is mourning the tragic death of Gary Blaylock, 45, who was fatally shot during an officer-involved incident on Monday, April 6, 2026.
According to the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division, the events began at approximately 10:15 a.m. when an officer with the Booneville Police Department attempted to stop a Chevrolet pickup truck traveling along Arkansas State Highway 23.
Authorities say Blaylock did not stop for the officer and instead fled southbound, prompting a pursuit involving both Booneville police officers and Arkansas State Police troopers.
The pursuit came to an end near 6883 South Highway 23, where officers carried out a rolling block maneuver to bring the vehicle to a stop. Investigators reported that Blaylock exited the truck while brandishing a firearm.
During the confrontation that followed, an Arkansas State Police trooper and a Booneville police officer discharged their weapons, striking Blaylock. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials confirmed that no officers or bystanders were injured during the incident.
Blaylock’s body was transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory, where officials will determine the official cause and manner of death through a forensic examination.
Special agents from the Arkansas State Police are conducting a full investigation into the shooting. Once the investigation is completed, the case file will be forwarded to the Logan County Prosecutor’s Office, which will review the incident to determine whether the use of deadly force was consistent with Arkansas law.
