Hope Town, BA – missing: American Woman Lynette Hooker Still Missing
The peaceful waters surrounding Hope Town have become the focus of an urgent search as authorities look for Lynette Hooker, a 55-year-old American traveler who vanished during a nighttime boat trip with her husband.
According to investigators with the Royal Bahamas Police Force, Hooker and her husband Brian Hooker departed Hope Town around 7:30 p.m. Saturday in a small 8-foot dinghy bound for Elbow Cay.
At some point during the journey, Brian Hooker reported that his wife fell into the water while holding the keys to the boat. When the engine stopped, he was left alone in the dark without power as a strong current reportedly carried her away.
Unable to restart the boat, Brian said he paddled through the night until he finally reached Marsh Harbour Boat Yard at about 4 a.m., where he was able to alert someone who contacted authorities.
Search teams from the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, the Royal Bahamas Police Force, and local rescue crews have since been combing nearby waters and coastlines. Strong currents and nighttime conditions have made the search difficult.
As the effort continues, loved ones describe Lynette Hooker as an adventurous spirit who loved traveling and spending time on the water. Friends say they remain hopeful that she may still be found or that answers about her disappearance will soon come to light.
The incident has also sparked conversations about boating safety throughout the Abaco Islands, where residents and visitors alike emphasize the importance of caution when navigating the area’s sometimes unpredictable waters.
Authorities say the search remains active as they continue working to locate Lynette Hooker and determine exactly what happened that night.
