TIVERTON, R.I. — The Tiverton community is mourning the loss of 40-year-old Matthew J. Poirier following a fatal single-vehicle crash Saturday evening. Authorities confirmed Poirier as the victim of the incident, which occurred near the intersection of Eight Rod Way and Morning Dove Drive.

According to the Tiverton Police Department, officers responded to reports of a vehicle leaving the roadway at approximately 8:36 p.m. on April 4, 2026. Preliminary findings indicate Poirier was operating a red Toyota RAV4 when the vehicle veered off the road for reasons that remain under investigation and struck a tree.
